Commissioning Engineer – Substation Automation (SCMS/RTU)

About the role

The Commissioning Engineer will lead the testing and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems (SCMS) and Remote Terminal Units (RTU) across multiple medium‑complexity projects. You will ensure that all commissioning activities are performed safely, on schedule, and in line with contract specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the commissioning function at project and design review meetings, implement design changes, and produce as‑built documentation.
• Support continuous improvement by providing lessons‑learned feedback to project processes and system designs.
• Assist Project Managers with claims related to new scope, cost, time, and risk quantifications.
• Create work plans and cost estimates, and manage delivery to meet program timelines, quality standards, and budget targets.
• Coordinate site activities to achieve customer acceptance certification and obtain utility approvals for SAS systems.
• Act as Hitachi Energy’s lead for commissioning, ensuring professional interactions with customers.
• Manage external contractors, issue permits, enforce health‑and‑safety requirements, and accept completed work.
• Coach Associate Commissioning Engineers and task‑manage a small commissioning team.
• Prepare project documentation for Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• Experience delivering 2–3 commissioning projects per year.
• Thorough knowledge of substation automation systems and RTU communication protocols.
• In‑depth product knowledge of Hitachi Energy solutions and competitor offerings.
• Working understanding of GRS systems using IEC 101 and IEC 104 protocols.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
