Principal – Commercial Projects Assurance

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Commercial Projects Assurance professional to lead the assurance function for OQEP’s commercial project portfolio in Muscat. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Commercial, you will provide independent, expert‑level assessments that safeguard commercial interests and support strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a commercial projects assurance framework aligned with OQEP’s governance standards and strategic objectives.
• Conduct independent assurance reviews at key decision gates, evaluating commercial assumptions, risk assessments, economic models and investment cases.
• Provide authoritative recommendations to senior leadership on project readiness and approval.
• Scrutinise business cases, proposals and investment submissions for accuracy, completeness and strategic alignment.
• Identify, assess and mitigate commercial risks across the project portfolio, embedding risk‑management measures throughout the lifecycle.
• Drive quality assurance of project documentation, including contracts, financial models and reporting deliverables.
• Develop and maintain assurance tools, templates and guidelines to standardise evaluation practices.
• Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Business Development, Exploration and Joint Ventures to ensure integrated assurance coverage.
• Monitor progress of commercial projects against approved plans and report variances.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in commercial project assurance, risk management and governance within the energy or related sectors.
• Proven ability to deliver independent, high‑level assessments to senior executives.
• Strong understanding of commercial frameworks, investment evaluation methodologies and strategic alignment.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the capacity to influence decision‑making.
