Materials Specialist

About the role

The Materials Specialist will oversee procurement assurance, inspection, tracking, and site management of all materials and equipment for a data centre and technical building project in Damascus Governorate, Syria. The role ensures that only approved, specification‑compliant items are used and that material records are accurate throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end material control workflow, including submittal review, approval tracking, procurement scheduling, delivery logistics, and site receipt verification.
• Maintain a comprehensive Material Submittal Register (MSR) from submission through approval, delivery, and incorporation.
• Review technical data sheets, test certificates, and compliance declarations to confirm conformance with project specifications and standards.
• Coordinate with design managers and discipline engineers during technical reviews.
• Conduct and witness inspections of structural steel, LV switchgear, UPS equipment, precision cooling units, and ELV/ICT infrastructure at supplier premises and on‑site.
• Monitor material pull schedule against the construction programme and alert the Project Manager to potential delays.
• Implement site material storage and preservation plans for critical equipment.
• Process delivery notes, inspection certificates, test reports, and FAT documentation to ensure traceability.
• Issue Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non‑compliant items and track corrective actions.
• Maintain surplus material register and manage disposal or return at project close‑out.
• Prepare weekly material status reports highlighting critical items and delivery risks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Required skills

• Material submittal review and technical data sheet assessment.
• Inspection of structural steel, LV switchgear, UPS equipment, precision cooling units, and ELV/ICT infrastructure.
• Management of material submittal registers and delivery documentation.
• Preparation and tracking of Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
• Coordination with QC inspection teams and alignment with Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
• Material storage planning and preservation for critical equipment.
