Senior Engineer/Lead – Electrical Design

About the role

The Senior Engineer/Lead – Electrical Design will head the electrical engineering effort for high‑voltage substation projects, ensuring designs meet international standards and client requirements. This role combines technical expertise with team leadership to deliver reliable power transmission and distribution solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for substations up to 400 kV, including layout, scheme, and equipment selection.
• Produce single‑line, schematic, and wiring diagrams, and design protection, control, and SCADA integration.
• Guide cable sizing, routing, and interconnection schedules for HV, MV, and LV systems.
• Perform load‑flow, short‑circuit, earthing, and insulation coordination studies using advanced software.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and other international standards.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and other disciplines to optimise equipment layout and avoid clashes.
• Review vendor drawings and specifications, and support CAD/BIM 3D modeling.
• Manage multiple projects from concept through commissioning, allocate workload, and defend design basis in client meetings.
• Provide technical support to procurement, construction, and site teams during installation and commissioning.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of electrical design experience in power transmission/distribution.
• At least 6 years in a design‑team lead or supervisory role.
• Experience with indoor GIS and outdoor open‑terminal substations up to 400 kV is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards and ability to manage complex high‑voltage projects.

• Software: ETAP, DIgSILENT, CYME, PSCAD (or similar).
• SCADA integration and relay coordination.
• Cable sizing and routing expertise.
• IEC and IEEE standards compliance.
• CAD/BIM 3D modelling guidance.
