Tower Quality Inspector / Engineer (Wind Steel Fabrication)

About the role

The Tower Quality Inspector/Engineer will ensure the highest quality standards for steel wind‑tower sections at our fabrication plant in Oman. You will be the main quality interface between production, clients and third‑party inspectors during Factory Acceptance Testing.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and enforce quality standards throughout the tower fabrication process, including cutting, beveling, rolling, welding and assembly.
• Conduct stage‑wise inspections against project specifications, engineering drawings and industry standards.
• Verify welder qualifications, WPS/PQR compliance and traceability of welding consumables.
• Perform and interpret NDT methods (UT, MT, PT) using gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges and flange alignment tools.
• Monitor and audit NDT subcontractors when required.
• Inspect surface preparation, coating application and lead paint‑damage repairs.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for weld defects, coating failures or corrosion using 8D, fishbone or 5‑Why techniques.
• Maintain full quality traceability – material test certificates, NDT reports, coating logs, NCRs and final inspection dossiers.
• Represent the company during client and third‑party FAT inspections and close punch‑list items before shipment.
• Prepare weekly quality performance reports highlighting defect trends and improvement actions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years QC/QA experience in wind‑tower steel fabrication or heavy structural steel manufacturing.
• NDT Level II certification (UT, MT, PT) – mandatory.
• Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of the full steel‑tower production cycle and corrosion‑protection systems.
• Proven ability to lead RCA and drive continuous‑improvement actions.

Required skills

• Non‑Destructive Testing (UT, MT, PT) Level II.
• Use of UT thickness gauges, coating thickness gauges, pull‑off adhesion testers, holiday detectors.
• Precision measuring tools – calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, flange alignment jigs.
• Welding inspection – WPS/PQR compliance, weld gauge interpretation.
• Root‑cause analysis techniques (8D, fishbone, 5‑Why).
• Documentation management – material test certificates, NDT reports, NCRs.
