Coating Inspector

About the role

The Coating Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all surface preparation and coating applications meet the required quality standards and project specifications. This role involves performing inspections, measurements, and tests on painted surfaces across various projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of surface preparation activities such as blasting and cleaning.
• Verify surface cleanliness according to SA 2.5 / SA 3 standards.
• Measure and record surface profile, dust contamination, wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT).
• Monitor coating application including primer, intermediate, finish and stripe coats.
• Perform holiday and adhesion testing and document results.
• Record environmental parameters (ambient temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity, dew point) and ensure coating is applied within permissible conditions.
• Verify paint materials against approved datasheets, batch numbers, shelf life and storage conditions.
• Maintain inspection logs, prepare Daily Inspection Reports and update coating inspection registers.
• Follow the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP), witness hold points and raise inspection requests as needed.
• Identify deviations, report issues, assist in closing NCRs and coordinate with production, QA/QC and client inspectors.

Required profile

• Proven experience in coating inspection and surface preparation.
• Familiarity with relevant standards such as SA 2.5 and SA 3.
• Ability to interpret and apply Inspection & Test Plans.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record‑keeping.
• Effective communication with production, QA/QC and client teams.
