Manual Encoding Operator – Station I

About the role

The Manual Encoding Operator monitors the manual encode station within an airport baggage handling system, performing bag scanning, sorting and basic mechanical troubleshooting. The role requires maintaining cleanliness, following SOPs and supporting shift operations on a rotating schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and manually scan bags held by the system due to size or jams.
• Sort bags by airline, tag status and readability, including “NO BSM”, “NO read”, and tag‑less bags.
• Maintain cleanliness of the station area, sweeping, removing debris and managing waste.
• Refill and transfer tubs at the MES station and perform regular area checks.
• Respond promptly to dispatched calls and follow instructions from control room operators and shift leaders.
• Hand over out‑of‑gauge (OOG) bags as directed and ensure compliance with SOPs, airport regulations and HSE requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma with 0‑2 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg and perform physical tasks under load.
• Flexible attitude, able to shift priorities quickly and work different BHS areas.
• Valid driving licence where required by site operations.
• Basic English reading, writing and speaking skills.
