Senior Safety Engineer

About the role

The Senior Safety Engineer supports OQ Refineries and Petrochemicals Oman by controlling safety risk across all RPI sites. Reporting to the TL Central Safety, the role assesses safety performance, designs safety systems and ensures compliance with industry best practice and OQ HSE standards.

Key responsibilities

• Critically assess RPI safety performance and translate findings into strategic and operational safety plans.
• Design and implement safety systems, procedures and equipment directly into facility and product design.
• Identify hazards, conduct risk analyses and develop mitigation solutions to meet regulatory standards.
• Lead development and rollout of safety policies, SOPs and objectives, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements.
• Maintain relationships with HSE committees, trade associations and regulatory authorities; manage incident investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Provide technical support for Hazard, Risk and Impact Assessments, applying QRA, HAZOP, HAZID and What‑If methodologies.
• Oversee contractor safety compliance and drive ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification implementation.
• Prepare technical material for safety training and support project risk assessments through the Management of Change process.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safety performance assessment and safety system design within refinery or petrochemical environments.
• Strong background in hazard identification, risk analysis and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to lead safety policy development and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
