Specialist Electrical

About the role

OQBI (OQ Oman Industrial Company) is hiring a Specialist Electrical for its Maintenance department in Salalah, Oman. The role reports to the Manager Electrical M&A and provides technical support to the electrical team in troubleshooting equipment, attending emergency call-outs and standby jobs, and coordinating with vendors on joint electrical maintenance works. The position follows OQBI's mission, vision, values and strategies, and is supported by IT platforms, HSSE standards, Omani regulations and international best practice.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate electrical spare parts, equipment and materials technically to confirm performance standards and suitability.
• Support commissioning of new projects so they integrate with existing systems and meet project specifications.
• Lead and take part in complex troubleshooting of electrical equipment in line with OEM specifications and industry standards.
• Follow work permit protocols, Lock Out - Tag Out (LOTO) and safety standards during maintenance.
• Take part in Bad Actors meetings to plan mitigation for recurring electrical failures.
• Support on-the-job training of junior engineers and team members.
• Oversee the use, maintenance and archiving of critical electrical documentation in substations.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors and suppliers on joint works and maintenance delivery.
• Help develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies and assist in failure analysis and improvement.
• Assist in electrical project planning, maintenance procedures, checklists and task lists, and in electrical competency assessments and safety authorisation.

Required profile

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar.
• Bachelor: 5+ years of relevant experience; Diploma: 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Excellent written, reading and spoken English (required); native Arabic desirable.
• Knowledge of refinery and petrochemical electrical work, IEC standards, ATEX area classification and Ex equipment.
• Experience with high-voltage switchgear, UPS/BC, motors, variable speed drives, soft starters, transformers, process heaters and power generation and distribution.
• Experience in equipment failure analysis, mitigation plans, electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, MOC procedures and electrical installation, troubleshooting and start-up.

• High voltage and low voltage systems, electrical power generation and distribution, and electrical protection.
• Electrical SLDs, wiring diagrams and electrical drawings.
• CMMS and SAP PMO.
• Root cause analysis, reading engineering drawings, and project management.
