Department Manager

About the role

The Department Manager oversees day‑to‑day operations of a specific department within a large‑format (big‑box) store, ensuring smooth functioning, driving sales and meeting key performance indicators aligned with overall store objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee overall performance of the assigned department, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to company policies.
• Manage daily operations including stock management, sales, and customer service to meet store KPIs such as sales targets, conversion rates and customer satisfaction.
• Track and analyze key KPIs, produce regular performance reports and implement process adjustments to drive improvements.
• Ensure visual merchandising standards are maintained, collaborating with the visual team to update displays for seasonal changes and promotions.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct regular stock audits and coordinate replenishment to minimize loss and overstock.
• Maintain security and safety compliance, proactively reducing stock loss and ensuring a safe environment for staff and customers.
• Lead, mentor and develop the department team through coaching, training and fostering a positive culture.

Required profile

• 3–4 years of experience in a retail environment, preferably in a big‑box or large‑format store.
• Proven leadership ability with a track record of managing KPIs and driving sales performance.
• Experience in inventory management and visual merchandising is highly desirable.
