Head of Department & Principal (English, Maths, Science, ICT)

About the role

Assafwah Schools is seeking an experienced educational leader to serve as both Head of Department for English, Maths, Science and ICT and as Principal. The role combines strategic oversight of key academic departments with overall school management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the English, Maths, Science and ICT departments, ensuring high‑quality teaching and learning.
• Oversee the implementation of the chosen curriculum (e.g., bilingual, IB, Cambridge, UK/US national curricula).
• Manage staff recruitment, performance appraisal, professional development and retention.
• Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements and international accreditation standards.
• Drive school improvement initiatives, student achievement targets and community engagement.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to set strategic goals and manage the school’s budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (BEd, BA, Sciences or related field).
• MA or PhD related to the undergraduate degree.
• State Licensure Exam for Teachers.
• IELTS score of at least 6 bands; TOEFL or CELTA preferred.
• 10‑15 years experience as Head of Department and 10‑20 years experience as Principal in a reputable international, private or public school.
