About the role
The Heavy Equipment & Generator Electrical Specialist is responsible for advanced diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair and configuration of industrial diesel generators and complex electrical systems on heavy construction machinery. The role supports field operations across multiple equipment lines, ensuring optimal power delivery and minimal downtime.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on industrial diesel generators, alternators, automatic voltage regulators, electronic governors and control panels.
- Perform advanced electrical diagnostics on heavy construction machinery, isolate open/short circuits and communication network faults, and program/calibrate ECUs and engine management systems.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, CAN‑bus (J1939) network maps and manufacturer specifications for torque, clearance and timing.
- Rebuild, repair or replace wiring harnesses, connectors, fuse blocks, starter motors and charging systems to OEM standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, load‑test data and diagnostic logs using asset management software and produce professional technical reports.
Required profile
- Diploma or technical certification in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with industrial diesel generators and heavy construction equipment.
- Proven experience with Volvo Construction Equipment systems; experience with Mitsubishi (MGS), Doosan and Kohler generators is a strong advantage.
- Certified Heavy Equipment Electrical Technician or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to work in confined positions and diverse environments, both workshop and outdoor field locations.
Required skills
- AC/DC electrical systems, 3‑phase power, load‑banking and digital generator control modules (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp).
- 12 V/24 V vehicle electronics, multiplexing, CAN‑bus (J1939) architecture and sensor integration.
- Programming and calibration of electronic control units (ECUs) and engine management systems.
- Use of diagnostic laptops, electronic scanners, communication adapters, digital multimeters and insulation testers (Megger).
- Electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) and battery handling safety.
