Minerals Inspector

About the role

SGS is seeking experienced Minerals Inspectors to join its inspection team in Oman. The role involves conducting inspections, sampling, draft surveys and quality verification of bulk mineral and commodity cargoes in line with international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform sampling, sample preparation and moisture determination for bulk, bagged, containerized and stockpile commodities.
• Carry out draft surveys for vessels loading and discharging bulk cargo.
• Conduct vessel hold inspections using hose tests and Ultrasonic Leak Detection (ULD).
• Inspect cargo loading, unloading, container stuffing and de‑stuffing operations.
• Verify cargo quality, quantity and condition during loading and discharge.
• Prepare accurate inspection and survey reports and coordinate with clients, vessel representatives, terminal personnel and port authorities.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Marine or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in minerals inspection, marine cargo inspection or commodity inspection.
• Willingness to work in ports, terminals, vessels and outdoor environments with flexible travel and shift requirements.

Required skills

• Practical experience conducting draft surveys.
• Experience with vessel hold inspections, hose testing and Ultrasonic Leak Detection.
• Strong knowledge of sampling techniques, sample preparation and moisture determination.
• Working knowledge of international inspection standards such as ISO, ASTM, BS and IS.
• Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
