Principal Electrical Designer – Senior Design Lead

About the role

The Principal Electrical Designer will lead a team of designers and draftspeople in delivering high‑quality electrical design for oil & gas facilities. The role involves managing design schedules, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and supporting the development of Omani engineering talent.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a pool of designers, plan tasks and ensure project schedules are met.
• Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings using E3D and AutoCAD, and perform consistency checks.
• Conduct site visits to gather existing data and verify design interfaces with other disciplines.
• Carry out lighting design calculations in Dialux and prepare MTOD documentation.
• Train and mentor Omani personnel to build in‑house drafting and design capability.

Required profile

• Minimum HND/ITI/Diploma in Engineering with at least 18 years of related experience.
• At least 12 years of experience in oil & gas facility design, covering front‑end and detailed design.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Proven ability to review and check drawings prepared by other designers.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD, particularly E3D.
• Advanced AutoCAD skills for electrical drafting.
• Experience with Dialux for lighting design calculations.
• Knowledge of company standards, Shell DEP’s and international codes.
