Road Safety Engineer

About the role

The Road Safety Engineer provides HSSE engineering safety guidance for logistics and transportation activities within OQ's RPI scope. Acting as the owner of HSSE road‑safety engineering standards, the role drives continuous improvement of road‑safety performance, supervises IVMS systems, and supports safe‑journey management for downstream operations.

Key responsibilities

• Promote road‑safety awareness among OQ employees and contractor drivers.
• Ensure implementation of the Road Safety Management & Control Procedure across OQ RPI.
• Lead investigations of motor‑vehicle incidents, near‑misses and road‑safety violations.
• Conduct road‑traffic safety assurance audits for company and contractor fleets, providing improvement recommendations.
• Oversee maintenance, calibration and technical support for road‑safety systems and IVMS equipment.
• Manage road‑safety infrastructure, including traffic signs, road markings and speed‑limit settings.
• Provide expert advice on road and barrier design in line with the Oman Highway Design Manual and industry best practices.
• Identify and introduce innovative technologies to enhance road‑safety performance.
• Lead technical specifications and evaluations for fleet‑management contracts to ensure compliance with approved road‑safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering HSSE engineering safety guidance for logistics and transportation activities.
• Demonstrated ability to act as owner of HSSE road‑safety engineering standards and drive performance improvement.
• Strong knowledge of Omani road‑safety regulations, international HSSE standards and best practices.

Required skills

• IVMS (In‑Vehicle Monitoring System) implementation and supervision.
• Road‑safety management procedures and compliance auditing.
• Design and evaluation of road‑safety infrastructure (traffic signs, markings, speed limits).
• Fleet‑management contract specification and technical evaluation.
