Advisor, New Business Development

About the role

The Advisor, New Business Development provides senior advisory support to the Vice President of Business Development & Commercial. The role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and pursuing new business opportunities that align with OQEP’s growth objectives and Oman’s national energy priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the VP on screening, prioritising and assessing new business opportunities, including farm‑in, farm‑out, M&A and divestments.
• Support the development of OQEP’s business development strategy by analysing market trends, competitive positioning and emerging upstream opportunities.
• Assist in structuring commercial terms, negotiation strategies and deal structures in collaboration with Legal, Finance and Technical teams.
• Provide input for investment proposals, business cases and Project Initiation Notes presented to senior leadership and the Board.
• Oversee due‑diligence processes, ensuring technical, commercial and strategic assessments meet quality standards.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners, investors, government entities and industry stakeholders.
• Mentor business development team members and share best‑practice insights from prior transactions.
• Monitor regional and global industry developments and advise on implications for OQEP’s growth strategy.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in upstream oil & gas business development or related energy sectors.
• Proven ability to evaluate strategic fit, commercial viability and risk of complex transactions.
• Strong understanding of Omani energy policies, international standards and QHSE requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and provide senior‑level guidance to executive leadership.
