Control Room Operator – Power Plant

About the role

The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and managing all plant equipment and processes to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power generation. The role works closely with the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team, suppliers, and the Load Dispatch Centre.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor all plant equipment, coordinating with O&M for maintenance and outage activities.
• Manage outsourcing activities related to breakdowns and annual outages.
• Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operational tasks.
• Act as incident commander and HSE representative during emergencies.
• Communicate power availability, demand, and supply information with the Load Dispatch Centre and utility suppliers.
• Raise work orders in the CMMS for plant defects and oversee plant startup/shutdown procedures.
• Prepare safety permits, trip reports, and monthly power invoices.
• Mentor new Control Room Engineers and supervise field engineers, chemists, and process engineers.
• Perform root‑cause analysis and lead corrective actions for equipment trips.

Required profile

• Proven experience in power plant or industrial control room operations.
• Strong understanding of safety, HSE, and incident management protocols.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Leadership skills to guide junior staff and oversee shift activities.
