Protection Design Engineer – Power Systems

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Protection Design Engineer to join a leading utility client in Muscat. The role focuses on designing and coordinating protection schemes for high‑voltage power systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform electrical protection calculations and short‑circuit studies for transmission and distribution networks.
• Calculate CT requirements and distance protection zones.
• Develop and coordinate relay settings using at least two major EHV relay algorithms.
• Utilise protection application software to model and optimise protection schemes.
• Design detailed grid station protection layouts and ensure compliance with IEC standards.

Required profile

• Degree in Power Systems or related electrical engineering discipline.
• Minimum 9 years of experience in utility protection design.
• Strong conceptual knowledge of power system operation and protection principles.
