Chief Investment Officer

About the role

Tanmia is looking for a Chief Investment Officer to lead its overall investment strategy, capital allocation and investment performance across its investment and asset management businesses. The CIO turns Board-approved strategy into an executable investment agenda, builds institutional investment capability and sector expertise, and develops scalable platforms and products that can attract third-party capital. The role sits within Tanmia's strategy of a focused, sector-specialized platform built around six strategic pillars.

Key responsibilities

• Own the group investment strategy across the sector-focused Private Equity model and asset management, and recommend and oversee capital allocation across sectors, strategies and platforms.
• Establish and strengthen investment philosophy, underwriting standards, portfolio construction principles and performance framework.
• Empower Sector Heads with clear mandates and oversight of the three sectors (Value-Added Manufacturing, Retail & Services, Financial Services) and the Strategic Investments Portfolio, holding them accountable for results.
• Oversee acquisitions, partnerships and platform-building, and identify direct investment opportunities that can become structured asset management products.
• Drive the structuring and launch of funds and co-investment vehicles to attract third-party capital, upholding high governance, transparency and fiduciary standards.
• Run a disciplined value-creation framework with measurable KPIs, challenge performance and lead the strategic review and orderly exit of the Strategic Investments Portfolio.
• Develop and execute the international investment strategy, building relationships with regional institutions, asset managers and family offices.
• Work with Finance and Corporate Support on financial management, reporting, compliance and controls, and embed risk management, concentration limits and valuation discipline.
• Build a lean, agile, technology-enabled investment department, recruit sector specialists and represent the investment function to the Board, shareholders and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• 15+ years in private equity, investment management or asset management, including senior leadership roles with P&L and portfolio accountability.
• Track record in fund/platform structuring, third-party fundraising and M&A execution.
• Experience managing multi-sector or multi-strategy portfolios; sector specialization in manufacturing, retail/consumer or financial services is an advantage.
• Regional (GCC) investment experience and network strongly preferred.
• CFA charter, Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification preferred; advanced degree in finance, business or a related field.
