Road Safety Engineer – Logistics & Transportation

About the role

The Road Safety Engineer will provide HSSE engineering guidance for logistics and transportation activities within the RPI scope in Suhar, Oman. Acting as the owner of road safety engineering standards, the role drives continuous improvement of road safety performance, oversees IVMS systems for company and contractor fleets, and supports safe journey management for downstream operations.

Key responsibilities

• Promote road safety awareness among employees and contractor drivers.
• Implement and monitor the Road Safety Management & Control Procedure.
• Lead investigations of motor vehicle incidents, near‑misses and safety violations.
• Conduct road traffic safety audits for company and contractor land transport.
• Maintain and calibrate road safety systems, coordinating with external service providers.
• Manage road safety infrastructure, including traffic signs, markings and speed limits, ensuring compliance with the Oman Highway Design Manual.
• Identify and introduce innovative technologies to enhance road safety performance.
• Oversee fleet management contracts and technical specifications to meet approved road safety standards.
• Ensure all vehicles are equipped with approved IVMS and GPS tracking devices with distress call functionality.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HSSE engineering or road safety within logistics and transportation environments.
• Familiarity with Omani road safety regulations and international best practices.
• Ability to lead safety investigations and conduct audits.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• IVMS systems implementation and supervision.
• GPS tracking and satellite communication tools.
• Knowledge of OPAL road safety standards.
• Compliance with the Oman Highway Design Manual.
• Road safety infrastructure design (traffic signs, markings, speed limits).
• Conducting traffic safety audits.
• Fleet management contract evaluation and technical specification.
• Road safety performance monitoring and reporting.
