Commis II - Kitchen Cook

About the role

JW Marriott is hiring a Commis II for its hotel in Madinat Al Irfan, Airport Heights, Muscat, Oman. This is a full-time, non-management position in the food and beverage and culinary field, focused on preparing and cooking food to quality and presentation standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping and storing food, and wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Weigh, measure and mix ingredients, then prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and a food preparation checklist.
• Prepare cold foods and operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Test foods to make sure they are cooked sufficiently and monitor food quality during preparation.
• Set up and break down the workstation and serve food in proper portions onto proper receptacles.
• Wash and disinfect the kitchen area, tables, tools, knives and equipment, and check that appliance and food temperatures are correct.
• Follow company and safety and security policies, report maintenance needs, accidents and injuries, complete safety training and certifications, and keep a clean, professional appearance.
• Work in a team, support colleagues and meet quality expectations.
• Physical demands include standing, sitting or walking for long periods, lifting up to 25 pounds, and bending, twisting and reaching overhead.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
• At least 1 year of related work experience preferred.
• No supervisory experience required.
• No license or certification required.
