About the role

The Deputy Representative supports the UNFPA Representative in leading the design, implementation and management of the UNFPA country programme in Niger. This senior position ensures day‑to‑day operations of the Country Office, oversees staff, and builds strategic partnerships to advance the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of an innovative Country Programme of Cooperation focused on population, development and universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
• Supervise and manage Country Office staff, ensuring effective daily operations and performance.
• Build and maintain alliances with government ministries, UN agencies, bilateral donors, civil society, academia and the private sector.
• Promote national ownership of programme goals and integrate SRHR issues into broader development agendas.
• Oversee resource mobilisation, external communications, partnership‑building and reporting to donors and UN bodies.
• Represent UNFPA at national and international forums, advocating for gender equality, maternal health, family planning and youth empowerment.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in population, development or related fields, preferably within the UN system.
• Proven ability to lead large, multi‑stakeholder programmes and manage complex operational environments.
• Strong knowledge of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action and the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Demonstrated capacity to engage governments, donors and civil society partners effectively.
• Excellent leadership, strategic thinking and diplomatic skills.
