HSE Officer - Oil & Gas Shutdown Project

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is looking for experienced HSE officers to support a shutdown project with a leading oil and gas client in Oman. This is a temporary assignment of about 30 days, starting on 8 November 2026; selected candidates may need to mobilize on or before 4 November 2026. It suits professionals with hands-on oil and gas shutdown experience.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor shutdown activities to ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures and safety regulations.
• Conduct site safety inspections, identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure safe work practices are followed during maintenance and shutdown operations.
• Monitor permit-to-work compliance and job safety requirements.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings and HSE awareness sessions.
• Report incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions and support investigations where required.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors and client representatives on HSE matters.
• Maintain HSE inspection records, reports and other documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• NEBOSH IGC, NEBOSH Diploma in Safety, or Level 3 HSSE certification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
• At least 2 years of experience in the GCC region.
• Previous hands-on experience supporting oil and gas shutdown projects.
• Fluency in English, with strong communication and reporting skills.
• Availability to join within the stated timeframe; all applications are subject to client approval.

Required skills

• Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
