Instrument Engineer - Plant Maintenance

About the role

OQ is hiring an Instrument Engineer (Maintenance Instrument SR2) in Sohar, Oman, reporting to the TL Maintenance Instrument SR2. The role provides the proactive maintenance strategy and support for the Instrument team and external contractors, acting as technical service provider for minor instrument projects and modifications in line with technical standards, so that assets and equipment stay available and operational targets are met.

Key responsibilities

• Develop instrument solutions for preventive and corrective maintenance and solve electrical problems in designated areas.
• Implement preventive maintenance (PM) plans, prepare procurement plans and review warehouse policies for spare parts.
• Coordinate instrument maintenance works, supervise PM and corrective maintenance (CM) and calibration, and direct all instrument maintenance work.
• Interface with external contractors on planned and unplanned maintenance (CM, PM) and manage vendor relationships and bid evaluations.
• Support troubleshooting and repair of distributed logic controllers, including emergency shutdown valve testing, and assist in tuning complex control loops and PLC programming.
• Study plant modification proposals, conduct HAZOP studies and risk assessments, and participate in MOC reviews.
• Work across CDUs, VDU, DCU, RFCC, HCU, hydrotreaters, hydrocrackers, utilities and offsite areas, covering pressure, temperature, flow, level, analyzers, control valves, positioners, safety relief valves and other instruments.
• Ensure HSE compliance, including process safety, major accident hazard control and participation in safety investigations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Instrument Engineering (minimum qualification stated).
• Field operations and office environment, with moderate to intensive computer screen use.
