HSE & Process Safety Manager

About the role

The HSE & Process Safety Manager leads all Health, Safety, Environment and Process Safety activities throughout the DRI plant lifecycle, from engineering and EPC through commissioning, start‑up and ongoing operations. The role ensures compliance with regulations, corporate standards and international best practices while fostering a Zero Harm culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall HSE strategy, objectives, KPIs and improvement programs for the project and operational phases.
• Lead HSE activities during construction, including site preparation, civil works, mechanical installation, piping, refractory, electrical and instrumentation works.
• Review and monitor contractor HSE plans, risk assessments, method statements and compliance with project requirements.
• Oversee high‑risk construction tasks such as working at heights, heavy lifting, confined space entry, hot work, excavation and SIMOPS.
• Design and execute commissioning and start‑up HSE programs, conduct Pre‑Start‑up Safety Reviews and verify emergency and fire protection systems.
• Establish and maintain a comprehensive Process Safety Management system, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bow‑Tie and What‑If studies.
• Manage Management of Change (MOC) processes, safety‑critical equipment integrity and Safety Instrumented Systems.
• Lead investigations of process safety incidents and near‑misses, supporting asset and mechanical integrity programs.

• Management of Change (MOC) procedures
• Safety Critical Equipment and Safety Instrumented Systems knowledge
• Asset Integrity and Mechanical Integrity program experience
• Experience with natural gas, hydrogen‑rich reducing gas, reformer and reduction furnace operations
• Understanding of high‑temperature process equipment and dust explosion hazards
