Lead Engineer Electrical

About the role

The Lead Engineer, Electrical provides advanced technical expertise and leadership for the design, analysis, and integrity assurance of electrical systems in oil and gas facilities. Reporting to the Manager, Electrical, this senior position ensures compliance with international standards and optimizes system performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical review and approval of electrical designs, calculations and specifications for upstream and downstream oil & gas facilities.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications and design guidelines to ensure consistency and quality across projects.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers on power systems, high/low voltage distribution, hazardous area classification and protection systems.
• Conduct power system studies (load flow, short‑circuit, motor starting, harmonic, relay coordination) using ETAP, SKM or similar tools.
• Review and validate deliverables from contractors and third‑party consultants for technical accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary integration with process, instrumentation, mechanical and civil teams.
• Support equipment evaluation, vendor proposals and lifecycle cost assessments.
• Participate in HAZOP, SIL and other safety risk assessments to ensure electrical safety integrity.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (post‑degree professional qualification preferred).
• Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Professional registration/chartership (e.g., CEng, PE) is preferred.
• Proven experience leading design and delivery from concept through commissioning.

Required skills

• Electrical power system analysis (load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, motor starting, harmonic analysis).
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM or equivalent simulation software.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, NEC/NFPA, API standards and hazardous area classification (IEC 60079 series).
• Specification and oversight of HV/MV/LV switchgear, transformers, variable speed drives, UPS and emergency power generation.
• Experience with HAZOP, SIL assessments and electrical safety practices.
