Professional Head – Rail Freight Facilities and Terminals (Bulk and Intermodal)

About the role

The Professional Head – Rail Freight Facilities and Terminals (Bulk and Intermodal) provides strategic leadership for the development, mobilisation and operational management of freight terminals, ensuring safe, efficient and commercially focused operations at key sites such as Sohar Port and Al Buraimi.

Key responsibilities

• Develop terminal operating models, capacity plans, handling strategies and service specifications for bulk and intermodal facilities.
• Lead terminal readiness activities, including equipment acceptance, systems commissioning, procedure validation and trial operations.
• Build and mobilise terminal management and operational workforces, defining competence and training arrangements.
• Establish operational procedures, safe systems of work, emergency arrangements and maintenance interfaces.
• Provide evidence for Operations Safety Cases and regulatory submissions.
• Oversee operational readiness strategies, testing, commissioning support, training and resource mobilisation.
• Act as the focal point for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and alignment across customers, ports, contractors and suppliers.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in rail freight, bulk and intermodal terminal operations.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic operating models and capacity plans.
• Strong leadership skills to build, train and manage large operational teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication capabilities.
• Solid understanding of safety, regulatory and performance frameworks for freight terminals.
