Scientific Editor – Energy Conservation

About the role

Cactus Communications is seeking experienced scientific editors to join its Earth and Environmental Science team on a work‑from‑home basis. The position is contractual and may be renewed by mutual agreement, offering a predictable schedule for regular editing work.

Key responsibilities

• Review and edit manuscripts to improve clarity, coherence and readability while preserving authors’ intended meaning.
• Ensure subject‑specific terminology, conventions and scientific arguments are accurate and appropriate for the target audience.
• Enhance presentation of complex research findings to improve communication and publication readiness.
• Format manuscripts according to journal guidelines and eliminate unclear, illogical or unidiomatic sentences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in one of the listed environmental or energy‑related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate scientific content and ensure discipline‑specific accuracy.
• Excellent written English and strong attention to detail.
• Prior experience in scientific editing, peer review or academic publishing is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in academic writing standards and journal formatting.
• Familiarity with terminology in fields such as environmental science, energy conservation, climate science, and related areas.
