Senior Substation Automation Systems Supervision Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Substation Automation Systems Supervision Engineer to lead the design, implementation and commissioning of SCADA and IEC 61850 based solutions for utility substations in Muscat, Oman.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full lifecycle of SCADA and Substation Automation System (SAS) projects, from design reviews to final commissioning.
• Prepare and validate engineering documents such as signal lists, single line diagrams, SCL files (CID, ICD, SCD) and configuration parameters.
• Coordinate database engineering activities, including signal mapping verification and EMS parameter consistency checks.
• Lead end‑to‑end testing, FAT/SAT, and integration of IEDs, gateways, RTUs and control centre interfaces.
• Act as the primary liaison with SCADA vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with project standards.
• Monitor quality, schedule and budget throughout the implementation phase and provide advanced troubleshooting support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics & Communications, Instrumentation or Computer Engineering.
• 8–12 years of experience in SAS, SCADA, IEC 61850 and industrial network projects.
• Proven experience with utility/grid substation projects, FAT/SAT, commissioning and integration.
• Relevant certifications such as IEC 61850, vendor SAS training (Siemens, Hitachi or GE) and CCNA/CCNP.

Required skills

• IEC 61850 protocol knowledge (GOOSE, MMS, Sampled Values).
• IED configuration and SCL file handling (CID, ICD, SCD).
• SCADA platforms and gateway systems (e.g., SICAM PAS, RTU).
• Industrial networking (PRP, HSR, VLANs) and time synchronization (NTP, PTP).
• Cybersecurity standards IEC 62443.
• Use of testing tools and protocol analyzers.
• CCNA/CCNP networking skills.
