Welding Engineer – Technical Support & Quality Assurance

About the role

The Welding Engineer provides technical support to fabrication teams, ensures welding quality, and drives process optimization. The role involves developing procedures, qualifying welders, controlling consumables, and coordinating with QA/QC to meet project and code requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Ensure procedures comply with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API/ISO standards and coordinate qualification tests.
• Provide technical guidance to welding supervisors and resolve shop‑floor welding issues.
• Interpret drawings, weld maps, and specifications; plan and conduct Welder Qualification Tests (WQT).
• Maintain welder qualification records, consumable logs, and traceability documentation.
• Specify, approve, and control welding consumables, ensuring proper storage and handling.
• Coordinate fit‑up and visual inspections, and manage NDT requirements (RT, UT, MPI, DPI).
• Analyze weld defects, recommend corrective actions, and monitor repair rates.
• Monitor welding parameters, optimize processes for productivity, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
• Prepare reports on weld status, defect analysis, and productivity metrics.

Required profile

• Proven experience in welding engineering within fabrication or manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of applicable welding codes and standards (ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API/ISO).
• Ability to develop and qualify welding procedures and welder qualifications.
• Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Capability to work closely with QA/QC teams and production staff.
