General Counsel

About the role

The General Counsel leads OQEP’s legal, governance and compliance functions, ensuring the company operates within a robust regulatory framework while supporting strategic and operational objectives. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role provides authoritative legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities

• Act as chief legal advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on all legal, regulatory and governance matters.
• Develop and implement a legal strategy aligned with corporate objectives, risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee major commercial agreements, strategic partnerships, investments, joint ventures and complex transactions.
• Lead corporate governance framework development and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
• Promote a culture of ethics, integrity and compliance across the organisation.
• Provide legal oversight for operational and commercial activities, including technical services, maintenance, HSSE, contracts and project development.
• Guide legal review of capital projects, procurement strategies, operational agreements and service contracts.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate law, governance and regulatory compliance, preferably in the energy sector.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives on legal risk and strategic matters.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing legal teams and cross‑functional partners.
• Excellent judgment and the capacity to develop and implement integrated legal strategies.
