Managing Director – Shipping Division

About the role

The client seeks a seasoned Managing Director to lead the Shipping Division across multiple offices and legal entities. This senior executive will drive profitability, strategic growth, and operational excellence in a complex, multi‑regional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead overall business operations and strategic growth initiatives for the Shipping Division.
• Own full P&L management and financial performance.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with shipping lines, principals, port authorities, and key customers.
• Manage commercial activities including client acquisition, trade development, agency partnerships, and business development.
• Oversee vessel operations, port agency activities, documentation, customer service, and service delivery.
• Lead container, Roll‑on/Roll‑off (RoRo), and dry container shipping operations.
• Mentor and develop regional operational and commercial teams.
• Identify new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and expansion initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with maritime regulations, corporate governance standards, and operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 + years of experience in shipping agencies or container liner companies.
• Proven full Business Unit / P&L responsibility.
• Experience managing multiple offices, regions, business units, or legal entities.
• Strong understanding of container liner business and shipping agency operations.
• Master Mariner background highly preferred, especially with commercial or shore‑based experience.
• Leadership, stakeholder management, and business development capabilities.
