Freelance Mortgage Underwriter – AI Training Project

About the role

We are seeking experienced mortgage underwriters to join a project‑based AI training initiative. As a freelance contributor you will help evaluate and improve AI‑generated underwriting decisions for a range of loan products.

Key responsibilities

• Assess AI‑generated mortgage underwriting outcomes across conforming, jumbo, FHA, VA and cash‑out refinance loans.
• Create test cases that calculate qualifying income for self‑employed borrowers using IRS Schedule C, Schedule E and K‑1 forms.
• Draft and audit conditional approval letters and adverse‑action notices to ensure Reg B/ECOA compliance.
• Identify differences between Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac selling‑guide rules and lender overlays in jumbo and non‑conforming scenarios.
• Document problem statements clearly and provide verified correct answers for AI model training.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Real Estate or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, loan origination or related financial services.
• Recent hands‑on experience with underwriting and income calculation for self‑employed borrowers.
• Strong written English proficiency (C1 level or higher).

What we offer

• Project‑based freelance engagement with flexible hours (estimated 10‑20 hours per week during active phases).
• Compensation up to $50 USD per hour, depending on expertise and contribution speed.
