Lead Process Engineer - Aromatic Units

About the role

Orion Group is recruiting a Lead Process Engineer for the Aromatic Units in Sohar, Oman. The role leads feasibility, process and energy optimisation studies, FEED and EPC project support, and supervises engineering work to keep maintenance and operations assets running with minimal downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Lead feasibility, process optimisation, energy optimisation and FEED studies and support EPC projects
• Implement engineering processes so technical assessments, recommendations and tasks are completed on time
• Cooperate on contract management, vendor/OEM interaction, FATs and SATs, RCM, HAZOP and other departments
• Provide input to the department budget and advise on overspend risks
• Identify and execute operational optimisation opportunities across units and equipment
• Supervise design work by internal and external engineers and prepare data for heat and material balances, process flow diagrams and minor plant modifications
• Review refinery turnaround scope of work and analyse MOC request documentation
• Perform root cause analysis, propose corrective actions and take part in HAZOP studies

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent
• 15+ years of experience in the oil and gas, refinery or petrochemical industry, preferably in aromatic units such as aromizer plant, naphtha hydrotreater, morphylane unit, XyMax or Eluxyl plant
• Experience in feasibility, FED and EPC studies, process and energy optimisation, and chemical/catalyst tender evaluations
• Field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks and data compilation
