Senior Mechanical Rotating Engineer

About the role

OQ is hiring a Senior Mechanical Rotating Engineer in Sohar, reporting to the Team Leader Mechanical Rotating within Engineering Services. The role provides technical expertise, analysis, troubleshooting and operation support for rotating equipment, covering new projects, improvements, cost estimates and design work for capital investments, and ensuring engineering work is delivered on schedule, on budget and to specification.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert for mechanical engineering issues, review design packages, specifications, calculations and reports, and troubleshoot critical equipment failures
• Support major capital projects, maintenance activities and turnarounds, and lead technical evaluations and cost-benefit analyses for equipment upgrades
• Coordinate with procurement and vendors on equipment quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness, and take part in risk assessments, hazard reviews and incident investigations
• Provide engineering input from conceptual design through start-up, and prepare scopes of work, data sheets and specifications for repair, overhaul and redesign of rotating equipment
• Evaluate contractor performance, inspect mechanical projects on site, and help close out punch-list items
• Support the maintenance team and vendors in developing repair procedures, capital spares and unique equipment plans

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent
• 6-8 years of relevant experience, including an engineer role in oil and gas, refinery or petrochemical industry with rotating equipment
• Excellent written, spoken and reading English
