Principal Economics and Planning

About the role

The Principal Economics and Planning professional will act as the subject‑matter expert for economic evaluation of operated assets. Reporting to the Manager Planning, the role supports data collection, analysis and the preparation of robust economic scenarios to guide investment decisions and annual business planning.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct NPV‑based economic evaluations to assess project viability and identify key impact factors.
• Apply advanced discounted cash‑flow methods (NPV, IRR, MIRR, profitability index, payback period) and incorporate fiscal structures such as production‑sharing contracts.
• Support asset teams with operational economics assessments for new wells, workovers and business plans.
• Lead presentation of economic analyses with sensitivity testing during stage‑gate review sessions.
• Evaluate asset development plans, growth proposals and ensure alignment with EPSAs, JOAs and OQEP screening criteria.
• Participate in multidisciplinary expenditure reviews, performance evaluations and economic recovery optimisation.
• Drive the annual operated‑assets business planning cycle, review budgets, and provide feedback for management reviews.
• Track KPIs, analyse OPEX/CAPEX variances, and prepare regular performance reports.
• Represent OQEP in committees with government and JV partners, presenting KPIs, work programmes and budget actions.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in economic evaluation and financial modelling for oil‑and‑gas assets.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in budgeting, KPI monitoring and stakeholder management.
• Familiarity with Omani regulatory frameworks and international best practices.
