Quarry Manager – Rock Extraction & Quality Control

About the role

The Quarry Manager will lead all quarry activities for a major breakwater project in Oman, ensuring a reliable supply of rock that meets strict design specifications. This senior position combines operational oversight, production planning, and quality control to support timely construction.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise rock extraction, blasting, sorting and stockpiling to maintain continuous supply for breakwater construction.
• Ensure daily and weekly production targets for quantity and quality are achieved.
• Verify that supplied rock meets design gradation, density, strength, durability and shape requirements for core, under‑layer and armour layers.
• Conduct or oversee rock sampling, laboratory testing (specific gravity, absorption, LA abrasion, UCS) and reject non‑compliant material.
• Coordinate with the Breakwater Engineer, Resident Engineer and QA/QC teams to guarantee compliance with approved specifications.
• Maintain complete documentation and chain‑of‑custody for all tested rock materials.
• Ensure quarry operations comply with environmental permits, dust suppression and waste management procedures.
• Keep accurate daily and weekly operational records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in quarry operations and rock quality control, preferably on marine or breakwater projects.
• Proven track record of managing quarry production and rock sourcing on at least two projects.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Rock sampling and laboratory testing (specific gravity, absorption, Los Angeles abrasion, unconfined compressive strength).
• Quarry production planning and management.
• Rock quality control and grading for marine structures.
• Familiarity with breakwater rock specifications and international standards (BS, ASTM).
