Refinery RBI Specialist – 12 Month Contract

About the role

SGS is looking for an experienced Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Specialist to support a major refinery project in Oman. The position suits a strong technical professional with proven expertise in refinery-wide RBI frameworks, risk assessments, asset integrity management and RBI programme improvement. It is a full-time, 12-month contract.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and enhance refinery-wide RBI frameworks, methodologies, procedures and governance systems.
• Conduct RBI gap assessments against API 580, API 581 and recognised industry best practices, identifying gaps in inspection strategies, risk assessments and data management.
• Develop RBI improvement plans and implementation roadmaps with prioritised recommendations.
• Review and optimise probability of failure (PoF), consequence of failure (CoF), risk rankings and inspection intervals.
• Evaluate equipment damage mechanisms, corrosion management practices and inspection effectiveness.
• Align RBI frameworks with Asset Integrity Management Systems (AIMS) and inspection, maintenance and reliability programmes.
• Establish RBI performance indicators and monitoring mechanisms for continuous improvement.
• Lead technical workshops, give specialist recommendations and support the implementation of RBI improvements.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or a related engineering discipline.
• Extensive experience in RBI within the oil and gas, petrochemical or refinery industry.
• Demonstrated experience in RBI gap assessments and refinery-wide RBI improvement strategies.
• Experience integrating RBI programmes with AIMS.
• Previous experience supporting large-scale refinery operations is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of API 580 and API 581.
• Understanding of PoF, CoF, risk ranking, damage mechanisms, corrosion management and inspection planning.
