Job description
About the role
ATMTA is building a High Precision Training, Research, Development, and Production Center for the energy sector in Muscat. As a Senior Additive Manufacturing Engineer you will lead the development of metal and polymer additive manufacturing capabilities for mission‑critical oil and gas components, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Key responsibilities
- Own metal additive manufacturing from process development and metallurgy to qualified production parts and repairs.
- Develop and qualify additive processes and parameters for corrosion‑resistant, high‑strength alloys using directed energy deposition and powder‑bed systems (e.g., Trumpf, EOS, Meltio, DMG MORI LASERTEC).
- Apply additive techniques for overlay, repair, and remanufacture of high‑value components such as valves, wellheads, and downhole tools, and integrate hybrid manufacturing with machining.
- Qualify parts to API 20S under API Q1, with construction and testing to ASME Section VIII/V and sour‑service compliance to NACE MR0175 (ISO 15156).
- Control feedstock and process according to ISO/ASTM 52900, ASTM F3187 (DED) and ASTM F3055 (powder‑bed nickel alloys).
- Manage metallurgy, porosity, distortion, residual stress and validate results with NDT and mechanical testing.
- Develop apprentice additive specialists through structured on‑the‑job training and competency assessment.
Required profile
- Proven experience taking metal and polymer additive processes from development to qualified production parts.
- Deep knowledge of directed energy deposition, wire‑arc, and powder‑bed fusion technologies.
- Fluency with API, ASME, ASTM standards and qualification to API 20S, API Q1, ASME Section VIII/V, NACE MR0175.
- Strong understanding of additive metallurgy, microstructure, porosity, distortion and residual stress.
- Ability to design for additive and hybrid manufacturing and to determine when additive adds value over conventional machining.
- Passion for building capability and mentoring apprentices.
- Degree in Materials, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
