Category Manager - tMart Groceries

About the role

Talabat is looking for a Category Manager to grow its own grocery store, tMart, the region's first cloud store concept offering 30-minute delivery of groceries at hypermarket prices. The service has expanded rapidly across Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Oman and Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Own the category management role end-to-end: assortments, pricing, offers and supply.
• Monitor economic performance of assigned departments and categories across sales, gross margin, profit and loss, and ensure alignment with the company's commercial strategy.
• Implement the category plan, pricing strategy and commercial guidelines, and support Ops with flows, adjacencies, tools, templates and fixtures.
• Review and resolve issues with local suppliers.
• Define and maintain the local assortment, integrate the basic assortment, and share product and quantity information with regional teams for international and regional contracts.
• Select local suppliers, negotiate and purchase according to cost price, discounts, rebates and payment terms.
• Pricing: set prices according to guidelines and recommended prices for PL and imported items, collect market prices and run country price audits.
• Promotions: identify local promo products, price them, submit forecasting and reordering data, build the country promotion calendar, follow up execution and analyse consumer preferences, competitors and trends.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience developing and managing multiple product categories in large retailers (FMCG) in an international setting.
• Experience building teams and leading cross-functional projects at scale.
• Detail-oriented, structured and able to prioritise; able to work hands-on, including on the warehouse floor or taking customer calls when short-staffed.
• Able to interact with senior executives and manage the expectations of multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with strong interpersonal and intercultural abilities.
• Fluent English and Arabic would be highly advantageous.
