SQL Database Administrator

About the role

We are looking for a skilled SQL Database Administrator to manage, monitor, secure, and optimise our SQL Server environments. The role focuses on high‑availability solutions, disaster recovery, performance tuning and overall operational stability.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server production and non‑production instances.
• Manage Always On Availability Groups – monitor health, configure listeners, and ensure failover readiness.
• Support Windows Failover Clustering, coordinate health checks, failover testing and patching with infrastructure teams.
• Configure, monitor and troubleshoot Log Shipping for DR and reporting.
• Perform daily health checks: availability, job status, disk space, backups, error logs, blocking, deadlocks and replication/AG status.
• Analyse performance bottlenecks and tune queries, indexes, statistics, execution plans and wait events.
• Maintain security – manage logins, users, roles, permissions and service accounts following least‑privilege principles.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with SQL Server high‑availability features (Always On, Log Shipping, Failover Clustering).
• Proficiency in PowerShell or T‑SQL automation.
• Familiarity with ITIL‑based processes for incident, problem, change and release management.
• Ability to analyse SQL Server error logs, Windows event logs and cluster dashboards.
