Head of Audit Governance & Quality Assurance

About the role

The Head of Audit Governance & Quality Assurance leads the internal audit quality function, ensuring that audit processes meet internal policies, IIA standards, and supervisory expectations. This senior position oversees the design, execution, and continuous improvement of quality assurance activities across the audit department.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement Quality Assurance (QA) activities and methodology.
• Plan, execute, and document robust QA review engagements, gathering sufficient evidence and high‑quality work papers.
• Lead the QA Review Team, providing day‑to‑day direction, coaching, and performance evaluation.
• Communicate review results, recommendations, and follow‑up actions to stakeholders.
• Close audit observations within agreed timelines and monitor compliance.
• Lead or support special and regulated audit assignments.
• Maintain a network with audit professionals in banks, accounting firms, and professional bodies to monitor trends and benchmark performance.
• Integrate best practices into professional development programs and the audit process.
• Manage departmental budget and expense guidelines.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation or equivalent internal audit practitioner qualification.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in public accounting or private industry, with strong knowledge of internal control, internal audit, risk management, and operational improvement.
• Prior experience in a Big 4 firm or banking environment is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
