Senior Electrical Engineer – Substation Design (up to 400kV)

About the role

Zawawi Powertech Engineering LLC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design of indoor GIS and outdoor open‑terminal substations up to 400 kV. The role involves delivering high‑quality engineering solutions for power generation, transmission and distribution projects across Oman.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for substations ranging from distribution level to 400 kV transmission facilities.
• Develop layout, single‑line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams for equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, busbars, lightning arrestors, earthing and cables.
• Design protection and control systems, including relay coordination and SCADA integration.
• Guide cable sizing, routing, and schedule preparation for HV, MV and LV systems.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE and other international standards.
• Coordinate with civil and structural teams to optimise equipment layout and 3D modeling.
• Review vendor drawings, specifications and technical documents.
• Manage multiple substation projects from concept through commissioning, providing technical support to procurement and construction teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 4 years in substation design.
• Strong knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage client relationships.

Required skills

• Advanced software: ETAP, DIgSILENT, CYME, PSCAD (or similar).
• Load‑flow, short‑circuit, cable‑sizing, earthing and insulation‑coordination studies.
• SCADA integration and relay coordination.
• CAD/BIM and 3D modeling for electrical layouts.
• Design of indoor GIS and outdoor open‑terminal substations.
